We're moving to a new apartment. As in, I was unpacking a box three minutes ago and I paused by my computer to write something swift. In three more minutes, I'll be back to packing and unpacking. I'll have more actual recipes once we get settled in. Next week? How soon before most of the boxes are gone?
Our new digs are wonderful. It's another flight up with a fantastic view (best in Cambridge, perhaps).
The top three amazing things about the new apartment:
- We have our ow laundry room with our own laundry machines. Yes!
- We have a separate room that will be our office (Matt and I both work for ourselves). We decided to take the master bedroom and turn it into a "master office." I wanted to get Cagney and Lacey–style desks, head-to-head for collaborative brainstorming and creativity (never mind that I know nothing about rapid prototyping and web apps like Matt does. He, however, is a good writer.) But Matt refuses to go by either "Cagney" or "Lacey," so we'll have to think of another desk arrangement (Fish and Wojo? And why do I conjure up cop show teams from the days when I was hardly old enough to watch those shows? It's a mystery.)
- Our kitchen is big, with storage and actual counter space. Did you read that? Counter space!
Our landlord is letting us get our own fridge, too. That's good because the one we're moving away from was horrible and froze our lovely produce any time we had the luck of getting a huge haul of gorgeous greens and veggies. I cannot wait. Just think of the produce storage and the meals we can cook. They might still be simple meals, but they will certainly be easier and minus the crushing defeat of realizing the fridge has frozen your escarole, radishes, or dragon beans right as you're starting dinner.
About your desks, April, have you been to the Gropius House in Lincoln? The his and hers desks are side by side against a wall, like one big long table. We have one uninterrupted wall in our home office, so my husband insisted that we create something similar here in Milwaukee! We don't often work in the office at the same time, but it's a nice link to a place we love. (And it's not usually a bad thing when your partner wants to sit near you :).
